Scottish Water has unveiled a six-year spending plan totaling £13.4 billion, aiming to future-proof aging infrastructure, combat climate pressures, and maintain affordable charges. This ambitious program, spanning every part of Scotland, will invest £8 billion in upgrading pipes, treatment works, and other critical infrastructure, while the remaining funds will cover essential operational costs. Chief Executive Alex Plant emphasized the plan's focus on balancing essential service protection, future investment, and affordability, ensuring that Scottish Water's charges remain among the lowest in the UK. The proposal includes a 3.3% annual increase in customer charges, but financial support will continue for over 53% of households. The plan is now under scrutiny by the Water Industry Commission for Scotland, with a draft determination expected in June and a final decision in October 2026. This comprehensive strategy promises to support jobs, skills, and local supply chains, inviting public discussion and feedback on its potential impact.
